Something Melbourne does great - food! Here are some of our old and new favourites.....

This is a new favourite - Cruzao Arepa Bar in Fitzroy. The circular food you can see above is arepa. An arepa is a Venezuelan dish consisting of "a round, flat corn pocket, cooked on a hot grill until crispy on the outside, and filled with a range of tasty options" (from the above website). Whatever you call it and wherever it came from it tasted great and seemed very healthy!
The drink in the foreground that looks like a milkshake is actually soursop juice. Soursop is a fruit that grows in Venezuela and looks like this........
Wikipedia describes the flavour as "a combination of strawberry and pineapple with sour citrus flavor notes contrasting with an underlying creamy flavor reminiscent of coconut or banana", which seems accurate and a much better description than I could come up with on my own. I loved it. David not so much.

Above is a Mexican pizza. We know of a few places in Melbourne that make these, but haven't found any in Sydney yet. This particular pizza is the 'gringo' from Mojo's Weird Pizza. There is cheese (of course), corn chips, jalapenos, tomato, spanish onion, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Not exactly fine dining, but a bit of fun.

This is definitely an old favourite. Ethan trying the hot jam doughnuts from the Queen Victoria Markets. A big hit with Ethan.

Erica eating her doughnut. She licked all of the sugar off the outside first.

I don't think this will ever be a 'favourite', but I needed to show a picture of the huge slice of pizza Erica ended up with in the Costco food court. It was bigger than her head! Ethan ordered the $2.50 hot dog and unlimited soft drink combo. Ethan + unlimited soft drink = lots of toilet stops.
