The Summer Palace, Beijing

The Summer Palace was exactly as it's name suggests, an imperial Summer retreat. However now us common-folk are able to explore the beautiful grounds. There are temples, gardens, a huge lake, bridges, corridors, boats, pavilions and more. I often felt like I was walking in a painting.

A wider shot across Kunming Lake towards Longevity Hill.
Fantastic weather with a beautiful clear blue sky!

At one end of the Long Corridor. Fantastic weather + Saturday = a lot of people to share the experience with.

A few hundred people also enjoying the Long Corridor.

Where's Megan?? Long Corridor behind me.

Where's David?? Cloud Dispelling Gate behind him.

Before beginning the climb up Longevity Hill (Tower of Buddhist Incense on the hill behind me).

In front of the Cloud Dispelling Hall with the Tower of Buddhist Incense beyond that.

David ascending more stairs, because we hadn't climbed quite enough at the Great Wall.

Nearly at the top. We had passed the Tower of Buddhist Incense, but yet to reach the Buddhist Temple of the Sea of Wisdom. It all sounds very Monkey Magic, which I learnt is based on a hugely famous Chinese novel called Journey to the West.

I felt like I wasn't capturing the size of the lake well in photos, so took the above video. Kunming Lake is man-made.

David on Long Bridge. Love the pretty willow trees (and love David too!).
