After leaving Orange County we drove through to Arizona and stayed in a town on Route 66 called Williams. We were only there overnight on our way to the Grand Canyon, but it was a fun place to explore. We walked along the main street and checked out the mix of Old West, Native American and Route 66 stores and attractions.

Gas Station Museum. It felt a little like wandering into a real-life Radiator Springs.
Turquoise Tepee.
The above picture was taken from the front door of our motel room, a really cute place right on Route 66. The black car parked on the end was our rental car. I had reserved a compact 2 door car, because I didn't see the point in renting anything bigger (ie more expensive). When we arrived at the rental counter we were told that our car wasn't available, so we could pick any car parked in a few particular rows. We went outside to look and discovered that all of the cars available to us were better than what I had reserved. This was like Christmas for David. I didn't have a strong preference for any car, so I stood with our luggage while David scoured the rows. He eventually settled on a Buick LaCrosse.
