The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon was indeed grandiose. More or less a massive hole in the ground, but extremely impressive!

In the above shot I was having fun freaking out David and an older couple by walking right to the edge of a ledge. Heights don't bother me too much. When I got to the edge I looked over (to shouts of "what are you doing!?") and realised that there was actually a small hill directly underneath the ledge and so if I fell off I wouldn't go too far (would be lucky to break a bone). So I called out to David "come out, it's just a gentle slope". This was met with peals of laughter from the rest of the group who thought I was making some sort of joke. Eventually David did join me and agreed that there wasn't a direct plummet down to the bottom of the canyon and verified that I wasn't joking.

You can see the Colorado River to David's left.

A closer shot where it may be easier to spot the river.

Me and more canyon.

Breathtaking and beautiful!

David. Now the river is on his right.

We were delighted to see lots of wildlife at the Grand Canyon. Every time we spotted an animal, David and I would whip out the camera and take some shots. There were two lovely ladies travelling around the canyon at the same pace as us and they thought our fascination with 'common' animals was funny. The animals were new and interesting to us. Australians were new and interesting to them - they kept asking me to speak.

I'm not entirely sure I have these labels right, but here are my best guesses..

Big Horn Sheep. Actually the ladies told us that this animal is not common, and they too were very interested.

Deer

Squirrel. We saw one of these in China too, as we were riding our toboggans down from the Great Wall.

Ravens? I think the ladies told us that these were ravens, but I can't entirely remember.

Mule.
