MBA Graduation

David submitted the final assessment of his Master of Business Administration degree last year, but he didn't officially graduate until last month. The kids and I attended the ceremony to cheer David on (except we didn't actually vocally cheer as that is discouraged). David and I also thought it was important for the kids to see what Daddy has been doing over the past few years of absent Saturdays and weeknight evenings when he has been attending lectures, studying and writing assignments.

Over the course of the three and a half years that David has spent completing his MBA part-time, the following other events have occurred in our lives.....

  • David continued to work full-time. During the period of his MBA David has been promoted twice resulting in escalating travel requirements.
  • We had a baby (our gorgeous Erica) and due to some eczema problems she woke up a few times every night for the first 14 months of her life.
  • For two terms David decided to double his subject load in order to move through his MBA at a quicker pace meaning that he was literally working AND studying full-time.
  • David was called as Bishop of our ward (church congregation).

Given the above I think it is remarkable that David made it to the end of his MBA course. However, he not only completed the degree, but has graduated with a Distinction grade point average.

David is not one to highlight or boast of his achievements (except on his resume), but I think it is an important thing to record for our children to be able to read at a future point when they will have a better understanding of the sort of sacrifices David has made. The children have some understanding of what David has been doing, but I don't think they will really completely understand what he undertook until they have their own families. We are so proud of him!

Here are a few more pictures from the Graduation ceremony......
