My Birthday!

My Birthday present was a true testament to team work.  For the past ten years I have been using a stand mixer that I received as a wedding present.  It has lasted ten years, which is great, but it seemed like it was now on it's last legs.  Every time I used it, it made a loud high-pitched squealing sound, and I really thought it was going to either launch itself across the kitchen or blow up.

As such, I mentioned to David that a new mixer would be a much appreciated Birthday present and maybe it would be nice to get something in a slightly higher price bracket than our old one.

My Mum then spotted a Kenwood Premier Chef (which she owns and loves) for about half the normal price in a store on the Gold Coast.  David called some Sydney stores trying to get them to price match and they all said "no way, if you can get that price you should buy it".  So, David rang the Gold Coast store and paid for the Kenwood over the phone.  Then began the process of getting it to Sydney.  First David's sister Lynis, who works on the Gold Coast, picked up the mixer from the store.  Then she handed it over to her husband Rob, who carried the box (it's a big box) on the train with him to his office in Brisbane*.  Then David picked up the mixer from Rob when he was in Brisbane on a business trip.  David then carried the mixer home with him on the plane back to Sydney.

My lovely new mixer.  No high-pitched squealing or threatened explosions.

Given it has been almost six months since my Birthday I can also share some of my baking projects.  Happily I have had lots of opportunities to use the mixer, particularly with school and preschool sending home multiple requests for cakes and biscuits to sell.  Here are some of the projects where I thought to take a photo......

Apricot Cake

Oat Choc Chip Cookies

Vanilla Whoopie Pies

Mini Lemon Bundt Cakes

Erica is also a big fan of the new mixer.

*  Lynis and Rob you are now officially my favourite sister-in-law and brother-in-law - at least until another relative carries a very bulky appliance for me on public transport.
