Every year the kid's school holds Harmony Day. Usually this is an opportunity for Grandparents to visit the children in their classroom (and for the school to separate the grandparents from some of their money - there are opportunities to buy books for the school library, fundraising for the band etc). The children also participate in a special assembly that celebrates diversity. The children come dressed in a costume that represents their heritage or in orange clothes (which apparently is the colour of harmony).
In lieu of a grandparent being able to attend (though Mum did try), I went along as the special person. Ethan told me not to worry about going to his classroom and just stay with Erica because he had already had three turns.

Doing a colouring activity.
Finished work of art.
Eating an ice-block on the playground. There are some advantages to having your Mum visit you at school.
My interaction with Ethan was limited to seeing him from a distance at the assembly and bringing him a drink in the middle of a serious game of handball during lunch time. He was happy with that level of interaction - growing up.
