We bought a new camera about six months ago. I decided that this time I would attempt to actually learn how to do something with the camera, other than constantly relying on the basic auto point and shoot option. I have been doing some online tutorials and then practicing in our backyard. I'm definitely not even remotely an expert, but it is nice to now have some understanding of exposure, shutter speed, aperture etc and how to capture different types of shots (even if only in theory).

Like I said............not even remotely expert, but it is a starting point. Plus I get the feeling I also need to open our copy of Photoshop and start working on my skills there too.
