Sochi Winter Olympics

We have established an Olympics-related family tradition.  We watch the Opening Ceremony together and share a family meal consisting of food from the host country.  For the last Summer Olympics in Britain, we got up bright and early and ate an English breakfast.

The Sochi Opening Ceremony started at approx 3am Australian time.  We decided that was a little too early, and so watched a replay of the ceremony while eating a Russian dinner.

I know how to cook one Russian dinner, Beef Stroganoff, but Ethan and Erica both dislike that dish.  I'm not sure what is up with their crazy taste buds.

I did a bit of internet research and found two recipes to try...

Тефтели “Ёжики” which is porcupine meatballs with a tomato and carrot cream sauce.  This dish was really good and will make a repeat appearance on our dinner table.

For dessert we had 'Sharlotka' which is a Russian apple cake.  We were less thrilled with this dish, but that may have more to do with  my cooking than the food itself.

Now I have two years to locate some good Brazilian recipes.
