Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Erica had never seen snow before and desperately wanted to build a snowman (thank you Frozen).  We weren't planning to have an actual ski trip (we didn't have enough time to make that worthwhile), but there is a place near Melbourne (about 90 minutes away) called Lake Mountain where you can play in the snow and go tobogganing. During our holiday we spent some time there so that Erica could fulfill her wish.  Erica was thrilled from start to finish.  Ethan said it was the best day and the worst day (more about that later).

Erica very happy to finally see the snow!

Some videos of the tobogganing...

Unfortunately I didn't catch the most spectacular toboggan run of the day (I wish - it would have been perfect for Australia's Funniest Home Videos).  On Ethan's last toboggan ride he managed to flip over and land in a big puddle.  When he stood up he was covered head to toe in mud.  We weren't very close to the bathrooms, so Ethan had to clean his face using water from a stream which was freezing.  Before we left Lake Mountain he was able to use a bathroom to clean himself up and change into dry clothes, but I think the shower Ethan had when we returned to Melbourne was probably one of the best of his life.

We did build a snowman but don't have any pictures (I had returned the camera to the car because I didn't want to carry it around).  Our snowman had a carrot nose and a leafy mohawk (mohawk courtesy of Ethan).  We had a snowball fight that somehow ended up being everybody vs Ethan.  David also made a little ice slide for Clara, but she wasn't too impressed.

The scenery on the way up and back was beautiful.  The kids didn't pay too much attention, but David and I thought it was pretty awesome.  David, Ethan and I had been to Lake Mountain many years ago when we lived in Melbourne.  In places you could see the impact of the Black Saturday bushfires five years ago.  Some parts of the forest looked almost ghostly.
