Erica is part of a drama group at school. They performed at NIDA at the North Shore drama festival. They have now been selected to perform at the State drama festival. Erica is very excited!
Erica looks very un-excited in the picture above because we had just had a little bit of drama (the wrong kind) prior to this picture being taken. While we were driving to NIDA for a performance, Erica accidentally broke her glasses. I left Erica with her group and started walking towards an optometrist (thank you google maps on my phone!). The optometrist kindly fixed the glasses (for free even) and I was able to get them back to Erica before she had to perform. However she was (understandably) a little panicked about the prospect of going onstange and not being able to see properly.
Erica's class has a 'pet' toy bee that the children can bring home for a weekend. They write in a journal about all of the adventures the bee has with their family. Erica decided that she would like to 'donate' (she wants it back) one of her toys to this process. She asked her teacher and he said that would be great! So Erica picked her toy Panda named Sarah. She made a journal that goes home with Sarah.
These are the rules that Erica made for her class-mates when they take Sarah Panda home for the weekend:
1. Please bring Sarah panda back to school on Monday.
2. Please don't get Sarah panda dirty. If she falls in the dirt by accident that is ok.
3. Please don't let your dog lick Sarah panda.
4. Please don't let baby play with Sarah panda.
5. Please don't loose her skirt. (Erica dresses Sarah Panda in a doll's skirt)
6. You can write about Sarah panda adventures in this book. Pictures are allowed.
Each week Erica's teacher lets her pick which class member will take home Sarah. Erica thinks about this carefully and decides who has done something really well that week. I have noticed though that there is a definite trend towards Erica's best friends! - don't worry the bee is still circulating too, so hopefully the other children don't feel left out.
Here is Erica with her school class (Erica is in the black and white on the right) right before a performance. If you are thinking that there seem to be twice as many boys in Erica's class as there are girls you would be correct. This is pretty much the trend across the school. There is a prestigious private boys school nearby, so the area seems to attract 'boy-heavy' families.
The performance is at the bottom of this post.
Erica dressed as a Scientist for Science Day at school. Very convenient that she already wears glasses.
Erica is currently shopping for a new pair of glasses. This is turning into a looooong process, but I want Erica to feel comfortable with the purchase. That is the infamous bee mentioned above. It is hard to see in this picture but he is wearing a little school uniform!
Erica sharing her afternoon tea with Clara. What a kind big sister.
