We kicked off Good Friday with freshly baked home-made hot cross buns for breakfast. Then we did a lot of hanging around watching movies because it was raining outside.
On Saturday we had our Easter egg hunt. We have decided to move the chocolate egg portion of Easter to Saturday, so as to keep the focus of Sunday more firmly on the Saviour. The Easter Bunny is cool with this arrangement too. We had planned to hold the hunt outside in the garden, but the rain put a stop to that. We moved the hunt indoors and the kids had a great time collecting their eggs. I tried to take pictures of Ethan and Erica too, but neither would stand still long enough to get a good shot. As it is this picture of Clara is a little blurry.
David took the girls outside for a walk in the rain because they needed a bit of time outdoors. Those boots and rain jacket used to belong to Ethan!
On Saturday evening Clara was playing with Erica when she had a little fall in the lounge room. It wasn't a particularly dramatic fall, just a simple little trip onto the carpet. She had a bit of a cry and was clutching her arm, so we put some ice on it. Fairly soon after she went back to life as normal, but with a slightly swollen arm. The next morning we noticed that she wasn't using that arm at all and when I tried to take off her pyjama top she began to cry.
It was decided that we needed to take her to a Doctor - on Easter Sunday morning. David made a few calls and determined that our regular GPs were not working (understandably) and that a visit from the home doctor service could take a long time. He called a hospital who recommended we get her into emergency ASAP before the rest of Sydney's kids had over-indulged on chocolate.
Clara and I spent our Sunday morning at Royal North Shore emergency. Fortunately there wasn't much of a wait. It was determined that Clara had dislocated her arm and the Doctor popped it back into place. She gave a bit of a yell and some major stink-eye to the Doctor. Then five minutes later she was completely back to normal.
Given Clara now seemed fine we headed to Church. I was warned to be careful with her arm for a while and try to stop her from knocking it. I watched her trip over twice just in the foyer of the chapel. It's pretty hard to stop a toddler from knocking into things, but she has been fine with no more injury to her arm. Above is Clara eating some ice-cream after Church (we had Sunday sundaes at Church that day).
On Monday the sun came out, so David and the kids went for a swim.
During the week leading up to Easter we reviewed the events of the Savior's life on each day along the lines of this http://www.mormon.org.au/easter. The kids really enjoyed our altered scripture reading that week. We had posters up on the wall for each day and they had to match the day with the correct events. I think it helped them to have a greater appreciation of the real meaning of Easter.
Now rewind to the last day of school. It turns out that at Ethan's school ALL of the kids participate in an Easter hat parade. Ethan was initially a little mortified about this (at his old school only the kindy children have an easter hat parade), but came around to the idea in the end. The school has a buddy program where the older kids help out the younger kids. The big buddies helped their little buddies make their easter hats, while also making their own hats. Ethan's Easter hat was inspired by Thor. He also got to do an Easter egg hunt and have hot cross buns on the last day of school!
