Canberra

During the school holidays we spent a couple of days in Canberra. David had to go there for work, so the rest of us tagged along.  It was cold! - maybe colder than Melbourne?  We went for a walk one day and finished up with uncomfortably sore faces and ears.

We spent the first morning in the hotel pool and gym because it was raining outside and David had the car (rightly so he needed to get to work).  This was fine with the kids who are always up for a swim.  When the weather fined up we headed to Questacon.

The girls playing in some cars.  Clara became frustrated because the cars were fixed to the ground and wouldn't move.

Erica poking her head up through a water dome.  When she came out we asked Clara if she would like to put her head in the water dome.  She immediately started removing her shoes and trying to take off her clothes.  I guess she thought she would need to get wet to do that. She was keen for the swim.

The following day we went to the Australian War Memorial, which I have visited multiple times, but it is always awesome.  Erica has been doing a topic on ANZAC at school and I thought she would enjoy the exhibits.  She actually found the entire experience very moving and a bit scary.  I think it really 'brought to life' some of the things she had learned at school.  In the picture above Erica is pointing to a sign about carrier pigeons in the first world war.  She did a presentation in class about Cher Ami.

Erica with some of the craft items she made at the War Memorial.  Ethan considered himself too old for the crafts and Clara was sleeping.

Getting ready to throw their coins in the water.  Clara has already lost hers.  She dropped it and it rolled into the water.

Ethan flicking his coin.

Erica, Clara and myself in The Hall of Memory.

The kids looking at some of the 102,000 names of Australians who have lost their lives in war.

The girls and I.  Clara not too impressed at this point.  She was getting hungry - almost lunch time.

Erica in front of a statue of Simpson and Duffy.  Erica really likes that story.

The girls and I.  Clara is now a bit happier because she has some food.
