We had Mum and Dad with us this year to share New Years Eve. Ethan and Erica also had the benefit of a large number of built-in friends to play with (grandkids of residents in our building). All of the kids ran around playing games and having a great time in the yard until the midnight fireworks started. At times this apartment deal is even better than living in a cul-de-sac. The kids are all able to play together in one enclosed space, away from the road, and within easy view of each apartment's balcony.
I had had a bit of a craving for pavlova (no I'm not pregnant), so a pavlova torte was on the menu for our New Year's dessert. You can see some of the kids already running around in the yard in the background. Sad story - I accidentally tipped 1/3 of that pavlova onto the table. That cake stand is made of plastic, which means it is light (I bought it for use at a children's Birthday party thinking primarily of safety). Turns out though that it can't bear the uneven weight of part of a pavlova. Splat onto the table it went.
Clara and I at the 9pm fireworks. Clara went to bed after this and didn't wake again until the morning.
Some pictures of the fireworks taken by Mum.
A couple of my shots. I think Mum did a better job than me.
Erica with her glow stick bunny ears, bracelets and party blower. One of the boys in the background has glow sticks in his shoe laces.
Ethan at the end of the fireworks. Looking ok for many hours past his usual bedtime.
