Our Christmas Mangers

I came across an idea online where children (or an entire family) have a manger that sits out during December.  When they do an act of service they are able to add a piece of hay to the manger.  The aim is that by Christmas Day all of the child/family's good works will have made the bed soft and ready for Jesus.

I decided that this sounded like a great activity to do with Ethan and Erica.  In fact I liked the idea so much that I also made these with my Faith in God class.  We made the manger out of paddle pop sticks.  The 'hay' is shredded paper.  We made the baby out of a wooden bead and some felt.

This is Ethan's manger.  Some of the good works Ethan did included listening to his Mum (good choice there!), doing his homework when asked and helping in the garden.

Some of Erica's service included unpacking the dishwasher, cleaning up her room without being asked and reading books to Clara.
