This is the courtyard of the hotel David and I stayed in while we were visiting Shanghai to look for a house and school. I just thought this shot of the buildings looked interesting. David took it with his GoPro.
A cool thing about living in Shanghai is the different foods in the grocery stores. Many different cultures are catered for, so we are able to try foods from all around the world. The kids have been able to experience the awesomeness of cinnamon cereals. On the negative side, there are a lot of Australian products that we would like, but can't find. Also, the imported foods are usually very expensive. For the same price as that box of cereal you could buy a Chinese dinner for your family.
Clara in one of the 'car' trolleys. They are awesome. It keeps Clara nicely entertained while I grocery shop. When we go to one of these stores there are usually limited car trolleys, so our driver scouts around for one and brings it to us when he locates it.
Visiting with some Chinese friends from Sydney! - who now live in Shanghai too.
One of Clara's favourite grocery products here. Those are hot dogs wrapped in croissants. Very healthy.
My mandarin textbook teaching me what I should expect from people named Bruce. Just kidding Dad. The most useful phrase I picked up from that lesson was 'zhishi dangao' - cheese cake.
Some of the labelling on products here cracks me up. These are yoghurt containers. Sometimes there are English translations that have been directly translated from Mandarin but don't sound appealing in English. For example, in one of the stores I go to there are 'chicken skewers with extra gristle'. If anything is custard flavour it is usually described as 'egg flavour'.
Clara practising jianzi. This is a sport in China. We see people playing with these in the parks.
Clara wearing her pollution mask. Fortunately it isn't needed too often.
Erica having an attempt at getting a pet.
Clara helping me in a furniture store. She loves those tassels. We haven't bought one because it would be wreaked within a week.
I mentioned previously Ethan's woes with his knee. Here he is getting an MRI.
