Jing'an Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Jing'an in Shanghai. The area was named after the temple. It was first built in 247 AD! During the cultural revolution it was converted into a plastics factory, then in 1983 it was renovated and started functioning again as a temple. Despite dating back so far, it does feel very new, probably because of the fairly recent renovations.

Nearly every temple complex we have visited in China has featured an item (there is probably a proper name for it) that you can throw coins into. It makes for a fun game. The kids really enjoy this, although I worry a little about them getting hit by coins (or hitting somebody else with a coin - which Erica did once - fortunately no harm done).
