Hue Imperial City

Hue used to be the Imperial Capital of Vietnam.  The Citadel was were the Emperors lived.  Construction of The Citadel occurred in the early 1800s.  Unfortunately some of The Citadel ended up being bombed during the Vietnam War.   The Viet Cong had siezed Hue.  Initially, American troops were told not to bomb the city, but as casualties rose, the restrictions were lifted.  Viet Cong occupied some parts of The Citadel, and South Vietnamese troops occupied other parts of The Citadel.  Out of an original 160 buildings, only 10 major sites now remain.  You can still see bullet holes in the walls.

A nice sister moment.  Erica helping Clara down the stairs.

Ethan walked across this concrete plank to check out the garden on the other side.  Clara kept insisting that she could follow because she has learnt to balance at school.  We told her that we weren't interested in going for a swim.  She was not impressed.

Clara blowing another kiss.  This isn't actually in The Citadel.  This was at another site in Hue called Thien Mu Pagoda.  We didn't spend very long here, as we have already seen a lot of pagodas.  Clara played hide & seek and then was asked politely by a monk to stop ringing a bell.  Then we went onto the next site in Hue.
