Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese island that is off the coast of Cambodia.  We visited here because it was the best beach location to visit in Vietnam at this time of year (December/January).  The weather was perfect - warm and sunny, one downpour on one evening, but otherwise clear.

We stayed at a resort (Novotel) and spent almost all of our time there because there was so much to do.  Our days mostly consisted of sleeping-in, buffet breakfast, going to the beach, going back to the villa for a swim, some sort of other activity - bike riding, tennis, kids club, a nap, dinner, back to the villa for tv and bed, repeat.  We did venture out one evening to eat dinner outside of the resort.  The food was good, but the township wasn't overly interesting.

The island seems like it is undergoing a lot of construction.  They have recently added an international airport.  Where we were staying there was not much surrounding our resort (which was great because it meant that there were no touts on the beach).  However, there were buildings under construction all around and we saw a master plan in the lobby that indicated that there were many more resorts to come.  We guessed that if we were to return in 15 years, Phu Quoc may look more like Phuket.

The island life suits her well.  Clara could swim all day.

Out for a bike ride.

Our villa had it's own little pool.  Our afternoons were spent playing games in here.

At the beach.  That is Ethan on that jetski in the distance.  He had Erica as a passenger.  David and Clara went on another jetski.

The resort loaned out paddle boards, kayaks etc for playing in the water.  There were also soccer courts, volleyball nets, basketball courts on the beach - plenty to keep the kids occupied.

This is how I occupied myself.  Unbroken was one of Ethan's Christmas presents.  Awesome book.

The girls joined with some hula dancers in a performance one night.

Clara playing tennis.  Hear all of the construction noises in the background.  Fortunately our villa was on the other side of the resort and didn't have this noise.

Phu Quoc was the favoured location in Vietnam for David and the kids.  Basically, give them a beach and a buffet breakfast and they are happy.
