It's much harder to catch pictures of Ethan doing everyday things. He has a lot of independence here and is able to get around on his own on his bike or scooter. He doesn't really want his Mum following him and taking pictures :)
Ethan has been back at soccer for a while. He was cleared of his knee injury after about 12 months of healing time. It was a slow process, but worth waiting. Ethan can definitely feel a difference in his fitness, but is happy to be back playing sport.
A piece of Ethan's art was selected to be displayed at school. He did well. Ethan's art teacher told me that the skull was particularly good.
The first picture is one of Ethan's most recent school pictures (just snapped quickly from the computer screen, I will purchase real copies later). The second picture is from the previous year. We hadn't realised how much Ethan had grown up in the last 12 months until we saw these pictures side-by-side.
Check out the poses. The photographer asks them to do this. Ethan hasn't done this voluntarily.
While on the subject of school photos, Clara's were hilarious. She started off smiling and by the end was clearly bored..
The kids also did a family shoot.
And then came home and posed for Nan while they were still all dressed in their uniforms.
Watching Ethan's soccer games has inspired Clara. She definitely has the fancy footwork, but might be missing the main point.
Ethan represented his school at a Model United Nations conference in Beijing last month. He is also going to Inner Mongolia next month for a school camp. The students are going to be building their own yurts and cycling across the grass-lands. This sounds awesome!
Funny story about Ethan. I received an email from school indicating that students needed to submit their subject preferences for the next school year. So I organised a time with David when we could sit down together and help Ethan through his subject selection. When I mentioned this to Ethan he said "oh, I've already submitted them". Ha! We were fine with this, but thought it was funny that he didn't even think to run his choices by us. He has picked math, english, physics, chemistry, biology (all required subjects), PE, Mandarin, History and Economics (his electives).
Ethan really enjoys studying music at school, but decided not to continue with it. It is a little bit of a pity because the music subject here is awesome. So much more interesting than what I did at school. Ethan has studied soundtrack composition, formed a rock band, mixed his own music etc. Unfortunately you can't do every subject. Wish I could go back to high school and do some of these subjects!
