Agra Fort is a Mughal fort with lots of very impressive red sandstone and marble structures. We visited here in the late afternoon which gave the sandstone buildings a nice glow. Agra Fort was initially built for military purposes, then it became a palace. Then it became a prison where Shah Jahan was forced to remain after his son seized power.
From Agra Fort you can look across and see the Taj Mahal. While Shah Jahan was imprisoned at the fort during the last years of his life, he would have been able to look across at the Taj Mahal. He had had the Taj constructed as a tomb for his favourite wife.
