Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 1500s. It was later abandoned, apparently due to a water shortage, but our guide disputed this theory. We visited here on our way between Abhaneri and Agra.
There was beautiful detail in the stonework here. It is amazing to think about how long ago all of this was constructed and how much work would have gone into the buildings - only to be completely abandoned later.
