This was a huge night for Erica. Every year the school hosts an event styled after the Oscars. In each school class (from Grades 3-6) the children form groups and then make a movie around a particular theme. Within each class the children vote for the best movie. That movie then competed with the other movies in their grade for a prize. The best movies from each grade then compete to win the overall school prize.
Erica and her friend Vanessa put a lot of work into their movie. They spent many afternoons together working on the script and coming up with ideas.
Erica was incredibly excited to attend the D'Oscars because her group's movie had won the right to represent their class, meaning they could potentially win an award. Additionally, Erica had auditioned and been selected as one of the presenters on the night.

It is pretty cool how they use the transitions between black & white and colour. The school has a lot of great film-making equipment, even a green screen.

Erica's face on the big screen as their group's nomination was announced.
And they won for their entire grade! There were judges from the film and television industry. This award was selected by an Oscar-winning producer (David Parfitt).
Having won the Grade 5 award, the group then went into the running for the overall school D'Oscar. This award was selected by the CEO of Disney in China....and he selected Erica's group! They were thrilled!
This is at the end of the award's ceremony when cannons shot confetti everywhere.

It just happened by chance (I think) that Erica (and her friend Vanessa beside her) happened to introduce the Disney CEO, so they were on-stage when their overall win was announced. We were able to capture some of their reaction.
Such a fantastic effort for Erica and her group! A lot of hard work paid off. Not sure where Erica got her performing talent, but she does such a great job.
