International Day

Shortly after we arrived in Chennai, we were able to join in the International Day celebrations at school.

Here are the kids ready to go in their Australian kangaroo t-shirts.  All of the Australian children in the school wore the same shirts...

All 10-ish of them :)  Ethan and Erica are in the above group.  Clara marched across the stage with the children in her class.  They don't get split up into country groups.

By comparison here is the South Korean group.  Much bigger than our little Australian group.  The largest groups were South Korea, Japan and France.

Clara with her class, all ready to go in their cultural costumes.  Clara has a half-Australian friend in her class.  Her best friends are from France and Italy, but all of the kids seem to get along pretty well with each other.

All of the girls in the school were given mahendi during the week.

On the weekend there was a family event at school where each country group had organised activities and food samples.  We had a lot of fun.  Above is Clara having her hair done and dressing up in a Korean outfit.  Our Australian group was combined with New Zealand.  For the equivalent event in China we were the 'Australia, New Zealand and South Africa group' ha! - I wondered how South Africa felt about being represented by ladies dressed as Australian life-guards handing out vegemite sandwiches - probably fine with not having to organise their own stall ha!
