Around Chennai

Through school there are regular excursions in the city.  These are fun and a nice way to meet other Mums (Dads are invited too, but I haven't seen any attend yet) from the school.  Here are some of the pictures from outings I have been on.

Kapaleeswarar Temple

We visited the temple during Navratri (festival of dolls).  During this time homes are decorated with dolls that are arranged on steps.  I'm not sure if these statues were arranged for Navratri, or are always there.  Guess I'll find out next time.

We visited a school that is run by the organisation above.  Women living in this slum (the largest in Chennai) who need income to support their families are helped to find ways to earn money (such as driving tuk tuks, making bags for sale etc).  Their children are able to attend this school.

One of the group outings.

The other half of the group.  I ended up in both pictures because I was taken to see the area where the cows are kept.  I was in the first picture, went to see the cows, then when I returned another set of ladies were getting ready to have a picture ha!

Travelling around in an autorickshaw.  Our driver was one of the ladies who were being assisted by the Speedtrust group as described above.

Sri Ramakrishna Math

The following pictures are mostly from around Mylapore area and were taken by another lady from school.  You will be able to tell they are not mine from the quality.  Wish I could take pictures like this!

Our view of Chennai from the back deck of our apartment.  We're about 40 minutes out of the city.  The actual city is a lot more densely developed than this.
