David started his 40s a few months ago. We talked about a number of different plans for celebrating this momentous occasion. While we were living in China there were plans to go to a very nice restaurant on The Bund with some other couples who were all celebrating 40th Birthdays in 2018. However, we moved before that came around.
We then discussed going away for the weekend to a resort in Mahabalipuram. But we discovered that Ethan had an MUN conference on that same weekend, which would mean close to 3 hours of car time everyday for him to get to and from the conference and missing out on our fun. So, we decided to schedule the weekend away for another time and have a quiet family party at home.
This was all going to plan until about 7pm the night before when we got a call from a teacher at Ethan's school letting us know that they were en-route to the hospital. We then shortly discovered that Ethan had broken his ankle and would be admitted to the hospital for some time. David woke up on his 40th Birthday extremely sleep-deprived after spending the night sharing a hospital room with Ethan - not to mention all the stress that went along with navigating the hospital system, doctors etc. the night before.
I thought the 40th Birthday celebrations would now likely not happen. However, later in the day David and I traded off. I stayed with Ethan in the hospital and David went home with the girls. The girls (without being asked) pulled together a little party for David. They are so sweet!
David's plethora of home-made gifts from the girls.
Erica busy making a big cookie cake for David.
They even made dinner. Corn chips with melted cheese. Sprite to drink.
The finished Birthday cookie.
Clara enjoying the party.
I'm sure if David could pick a way to celebrate his 40th Birthday he wouldn't re-select the same circumstance. But I'm also sure he wouldn't pick different company. I'm also sure he will never forget the party that his two girls threw for him!
