Ethan looked at the blog recently and said to me "why is there a new Clara Lately and Erica Lately, but no Ethan Lately?" So here it is, a round-up of Ethan's activities over the past while. He has been quite busy.
Ethan went to Qatar in February for a Model United Nations conference. Luckily he was able to walk without his cast the week before he went away on this trip!
I wasn't at the conference, the pictures were taken by a teacher accompanying the group. Ethan always enjoys the MUN conferences. It's nice for him to be able to have this experience while he is attending an international school. The MUN club at our current school is very strong. About half of the High School is involved in MUN (but not all at this conference).
Ethan also entered the National History Day contest. This is an American-based competition. Ethan was competing in the South Asia area against other American international schools. Ethan submitted a project in the website development section. He also had to talk about his website and answer questions from a panel of judges. He won the first round at his school, which enabled him to take his project to the next round of competition in Singapore.
In Singapore Ethan also won his category! He has been invited to compete in Washington DC (against the winners from each US state, and other areas of the world). However, he needs an operation at the same time (on his ankle), so he won't be going to this competition. The picture above is Ethan collecting his award.

Back at home showing us his medal. Very proud of his awesome efforts!
Ethan has been playing the bass clarinet in the High School band. Band is a regular school subject here. It is great that Ethan has many other interests outside of sport, so that while his ankle has been healing, he has still had many other activities to enjoy.
I went to a music concert earlier in the year where the band and the choir (also a school subject here) were performing. Ethan had a clarinet solo. While Ethan was doing his solo, his friends in the audience were cheering for him and calling out 'go Ethan'! There were also cheers for each student who did a solo on their instrument or singing. They are a pretty nice group of kids.
Despite how it appears in the picture above, Ethan is not in a band full of Asian girls :) There are other boys, that angle just takes in the flute section which tends to be female-heavy.
Despite not being allowed to compete in sport at the moment, Ethan still became involved with the school athletics team. Ethan became an honorary coach and got up early (5:45am) four mornings per week to go to school and help out with the coaching of the athletics team. He also did a bit of working out and slowly eased himself back into running. On the throws days he was able to be a normal student athlete, but these aren't his 'events'.
Due to all of these early morning starts this is what Ethan did most afternoons on the way home from school.
