At the beginning of this school year I inherited the job of Australia & NZ co-ordinator for the school. It was more a matter of elimination. We were down to 3 Mums. One was repatriating before the end of the year. The other is married to a Japanese man and so was already doing double-duty.
I was happy to take it on though because once the responsibilities were explained to me it really didn't sound that different to having a church calling. I get advance notice of Australians moving into school and get to greet them, welcome them to the school, help them settle. I also help co-ordinate the Australians (and NZers) for events at the school.
My biggest event to look after is the United Nations Day celebrations. We put together these shirts for all of the Australian children to wear..
They looked awesome. The girls and I also made Australian flag scrunchies for all of the girls.
Clara with some of her friends. Both Americans. I think you can probably already tell that for Tatiana (on the right).
Clara and her friend Leone (from Italy).
Clara was the sign-bearer for the group (because she is the youngest).
Erica on the end.
Clara's class. In there I can see Japanese, Korean, Italian, Australian, American and French students.
Clara getting ready to do her duty with the sign.
Ethan was the flag bearer (because he is the oldest - no nepotism).
The next day we had World Picnic Day. Each country group sets up a stand with food and activities. The children receive passports and are able to get a stamp at each country. If they collect all of the stamps they receive a prize. Linda and I after we had set-up the Australia stand.
The first shift on the stand.
