Alleppey Backwaters Boat Cruise

Kerala has 900km of waterways.  We hired a traditional Keralan houseboat and went on a cruise of the backwaters.  Many of the villages revolve around the waterways, using boats as the primary form of transport.

Erica getting ready to board.  Our boat is the second one.  We walked through the first boat to reach our own.

It was a great day - being on the backwaters was both relaxing and fascinating.

Ethan taking in the beautiful environment of the backwaters.  He didn't actually do this the entire time.  He needed a nap.

Eating our lunch on the boat.  They had the fattest rice grains I have ever seen.  Must be a Keralan food.

Us on the boat.  The man who co-ordinated the boat for us happened to be out on the water in a different boat.  He snapped a picture of us when he passed and emailed it to me.

It is possible to hire the boats overnight.  This is one of the bedrooms.  We opted for just the day trip.

The music is coming from a temple.

Raining.

Overall it was a fantastic experience and highly recommended if you are in Kerala.
