Sri Ramakrishna Math, Kapaleeswarar Temple and Santhome Basilica

We did a little Church/Temple circuit around Mylapore area with Mum.  I had visited all of these places previously, but none of the rest of the family had been.

This is Sri Ramakrishna Math.  It's a fascinating religious site.  It is a monastic order that follows the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, who taught a doctrine about the unity of all religions.  The temple has been designed to incorporate architectural elements from different religions.  All people are welcome to worship here.

Kapaleeswarar Temple.  This temple is dedicated to Shiva.  I think this is one of the most impressive temples in Chennai.

A Guineafowl wondering around in the temple grounds.

This picture is taken inside Santhome Basilica.  This is a Roman Catholic Cathedral.  Chennai plays a part in Christian History.  It is believed that the Cathedral marks the final resting place of St Thomas the Apostle.  From my understanding, Thomas brought Christianity to India.  He was killed at St Thomas Mount (a hill behind the airport).   There are different stories of how St Thomas died.  At the Church there is a depiction of him being killed by a Hindu Priest, but there is another story (originating from Marco Polo) that an archer hunting peacocks accidentally shot him.
