Sigirya Rock

Another incredible experience in Sri Lanka.  Sigirya is an ancient rock fortress.  King Kashyapa built his palace on top of the rock around 490AD.  After the King died the palace was abandoned and became a Buddhist monastery.  It's now a historical site and tourist attraction.

We did the climb early in the morning on January 1.  What a way to start 2020!

Half-way up at the Lion's paws.  By this point David had opted to take a path that took him around the base of the rock.  He didn't like the heights.

Reaching the top.  Erica taking some pictures.

The great thing about heading up early is that there were not many other people up there when we arrived.  We also beat the heat and were able to head down when it started to get really hot.

Heading back down.  There was a bit of nervousness from Clara on these stairs (and any place where she could see through the stairs/path to the ground below).
