As you walk out of immigration in the international airport in Sri Lanka, you come into a line of electronics stores! I didn't take a picture, this is from a forum online. It feel a little odd. I was trying to figure out why people would want to buy white good in the airport, but it turns out there is a good reason. Workers who are returning from overseas can buy their appliances in the airport tax free as they re-enter the country. So, as above people will leave the airport with a new refrigerator, oven or washing machine.
We see this sometimes in Asian airports. I haven't noticed it elsewhere. The seats are usually separated from all of the others. I'm not sure why.
These pictures were taken as the sun set on New Year's Eve. I booked accomodation on Athena Lake which was beautiful and tranquil. We wanted something quiet because we were getting up very early the next morning to do the hike up Sigirya Rock. We arrived at our accomodation and discovered that they were hosting a New Year's Eve party - not so quiet.
We hired a driver and car in Sri Lanka, which took care of all of our transport from the airport through to Weligama. Our driver seemed to be covering multiple religious bases. He had a statue of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus. There was also a Buddha statue. Additionally, there was a picture of Jesus sitting on the dash which would reflect up onto the windscreen, making it appear as though he was standing on the bonnet.
This is the children's playground at the international airport in Chennai. The girls sat in there watching their i-pads. This initially was filled with plastic balls and looked like a fun space for kids. Over time it has gone downhill fast. There are still a few half-balls.
Taking turns to nap on each other in the car :)
