I think it's hard to appreciate this fully if you haven't been to India, but the cities are full of colour and life and noise for much of the day and night. Usually at any point of the day we could look out of our windows and see something interesting happening outside - big neighbourhood cricket games, cows wandering through traffic, festivals and events at the local Hindu temple, people transporting large loads using undersized modes of transport, colourfully dressed women in their saris, fireworks!
When lockdown started everything went very quiet. So quiet that it was often just the cows and dogs wandering around outside.
