Erica's 12th Birthday

Erica had a really fun 12th Birthday and was so excited in the lead up to the big event.  We made a little party for her at home.

Eating a Birthday breakfast.

Chatting to Dad.  His flights had been cancelled and rescheduled.  Previously he would have arrived back prior to Erica's birthday but was now delayed and arrived the following day.  Erica was chatting to David on the phone.

Erica's birthday cake.  I made the cheesecake base.  Erica did the decorating.

The following day David arrived home bearing gifts that he had bought from the shopping centre across from the Singapore airport (the best airport!).  They have a Typo there and a store with lots of Harry Potter items.  Erica was very happy.

David had also been to Costco in Korea.  He decided that we should be adding gummy worms and gummy bears to our food storage ha!  This was no joke though, everybody was stocking up on food by this point.  Our branch had put out a request to all members to ensure they had 3 months worth of food in their homes.  If unaffordable, the Church was buying the food for the members who needed it.

About a week and a half after Erica's Birthday, all of India was in lockdown.  Erica entertained herself by doing one of her favourite pastimes - baking!

As soon as lockdown started the streets around our apartment looked like this.  Normally that road would have near-constant traffic and people walking around.  The neighbourhood became silent.  We could hear the birds.  While I don't wish for lockdowns, it was the most peaceful run of weeks we had had in Chennai.  No horns, no fireworks, no parties, no loud music.  However, the very real downside was no jobs for much of the population, which is a massive problem when so many people live day-to-day or close to it.
