For anybody paying close attention - yes, Ethan is already 17. I'm playing catch-up on Ethan's 16th Birthday.
By this stage we had visas for Korea and a flight booked. It was a lucky turn for Ethan because our flight wasn't scheduled to leave until the week after his birthday, so he was able to spend it by the beach in Sydney, rather than in quarantine in Korea.
