I haven't done this on purpose, but it looks like I'll be posting about Christmas on the first day of July, when we are half-way to the next Christmas! I'm still behind here, but gradually catching up. When I started trying to catch up I was a full year behind. Slowly narrowing the gap.
When our belongings were packed up I decided to keep out the Christmas tree and the decorations. During the time that we were staying in a hotel, we went to the new apartment and set up the Christmas tree. When we had finished we had an entire empty apartment, except for one fully decorated Christmas tree in the corner of the lounge room. We did this (entirely my idea, not necessarily considered very important by everybody else) so that we would be ready to go for Christmas. I was worried that with our move in date being 3 days before Christmas, we'd be too tired from the unpacking to feel very excited about setting up for Christmas. I didn't want to end up with Christmas without the tree, or worse being up really late on Christmas eve both setting up a Christmas tree and wrapping presents.
It was Ethan's turn to put the star on the top of the tree. Ethan makes the tree look smaller than usual. There were two things going on there - Ethan has grown a lot taller, and the tree was also shorter than usual. I didn't have the basket that the base usually mounted in.
Erica and Clara made us a gingerbread house. I no longer need to get involved in these projects at all. The girls are completely self-sufficient, particularly Erica.
The kids on Christmas morning.
David and I bought nearly all of the kid's Christmas presents on the Saturday before Christmas. Never done it that way before, but it was efficient.
We ate Christmas lunch out at a small local Italian restaurant. It wasn't a traditional Christmas meal, but it was still really nice. We did check with a few hotels to see if they were doing Christmas meals, but most were not doing that this year due to Covid. Preparing a meal from scratch wasn't on the cards due to a lack of time to get everything organised.
Erica sorted us out for dessert - yum!
