Ethan's Graduation

Ethan graduated from High School last month.  He put in a stellar effort all the way through school.  Over the last six years he has done two years in a British curriculum in China, then two years in an American curriculum in India, then two years doing the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Korea.  That's quite a unique High School career!  It's not the easiest way to progress through school having to change foreign languages and adapt to changes in math curriculum, but he did it and did it really well.

We find out Ethan's IB results next month.

The whole grade of 32 students.  These are some pretty high achieving teens.  The average ib score last year was 40! (for Australians that is the equivalent of an ATAR around 97 to 98 or an OP 1 or 2).

Erica made this cute cupcakes to celebrate Ethan's graduation.

The little spiel given by the High School principal for Ethan.  One of these was done for each student.

Prior to graduation Ethan also went through the process of applying to international Universities.   Given the school gives good support for doing this, we told Ethan he might as well have a shot and see what comes up.

It turns out he got into his first choice University - New York University (Abu Dhabi campus).  I won't go into a lot of detail about the University itself.  If you are interested you can look it up and read about it, it is a pretty cool program.  Check out J-terms, global academic centers and community-based global learning.  NYU is obviously very well known, but the Abu Dhabi campus is less well-known because it's only been running for about a decade, but getting admitted is a huge achievement because the bar is very high - only 3 to 4% of applicants are accepted.

The above video was taken very early in the morning when the results came out.
