While Nan was visiting, Erica and Clara had a break from school. We headed to Kanchanaburi for a few days. Unfortunately David couldn’t join us for this trip, as he was away for work.
Our first stop was Hellfire Pass. This is a famous cutting along the Thailand-Burma railway. The prisoners of war were worked 16 to 18 hours a day to cut this clearing into the rock. Torches were used to light the rock walls for the work, giving an appearance of hell. Hence, the name Hellfire Pass.

This is how much rock one prisoner would remove per day.
And this is how much food they were given.
Little cutie.
