We stopped at Liberty State Park in New Jersey to take the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
It was cool to see, but also a pretty hot and crowded day. A couple of tips from me - do this trip from New Jersey if possible, rather than Battery Park. The lines were shorter going both ways. Also, if you don’t care too much about getting up close to The Statue of Liberty or visiting Ellis Island, you can take the Staten Island ferry which is free and sails past the Statue.
