This is the Place

David in front of the This is the Place monument. It is named in commemoration of the statement made by Brigham Young when the pioneers reached the Salt Lake Valley, that they had found the right place. The figures on top of the pedestal are Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball and Wilford Woodruff.

Me in front of Journey's End monument. It depicts a handcart pioneer family kneeling in prayer after having reached the end of their journey.

There was a lot of glare on the day we visited This is the Place Heritage Park. Of course we once again had left our sunglasses behind. Most of our photos include squinting. We have lots of shots like the one above.

David with the valley behind him.

Another shot of David with the valley behind him, but this was taken from another location
(just below Ensign Peak).
