We hadn't had a trip to QLD since 2019, due to the difficulties associated with Covid. It was really nice to be able to reconnect with everybody again in person. Our trips back are usually very busy, trying to sort out tasks that are better done while in Australia. David was working remotely during this time. I had been asked to take it easy (more about that later). We had a rental property become vacant, giving us a good opportunity to get some work done there (thanks to Pa for all of his help!). We were also helping Ethan get ready to leave on his mission. A lot to do! But we were able to fit in some fun too.
We stayed near the beach in Currumbin, so were able to get a fair bit of time on the sand (and in the waves for the surfers and body boarders).
The girls spent a day at Movie World with Nan, which they loved.
Cousin time!
A rare picture with all of us in it. This was taken during the Buckle family weekend, while at a bowling alley.
The reason I was asked to take it easy for a while - During our flight from Seoul to Singapore I had some bleeding connected with the pregnancy. When we landed in Changi for our transit I went to the medical centre in the airport. They pretty promptly put me into an ambulance and sent me to a hospital in the city - along with Erica and Clara and all of our carry-on luggage. David and Ethan were already in Australia, having arrived earlier for a surfing camp trip.
At the hospital I was checked into emergency, and then referred to one of their OBGYN. The obstetrician did some tests, scans etc and confirmed that I wasn't having a miscarriage, and the baby was still fine. At that point my placenta was lying low to the cervix (has since moved), so that was a likely a contributor to the bleeding. I was cleared to fly. The girls and I made our way back to the airport in a taxi, and thankfully Singapore Airlines was able to get us onto a later flight (the original flight had long since left). Our bags didn't make it to the other end with the flight, but got to us eventually.
While I was in the hospital Erica was very level-headed and kept Clara occupied. She organised a place to store our bags with the emergency department. Thankfully we had Singaporean dollars in our carry on luggage. Erica found the currency, turned on the global roaming on her phone and took Clara for a walk out of the hospital to find some food to eat (it was dinner time, they found a pizza restaurant nearby). I'm grateful it was Singapore, a place the kids have been before, and where the streets are quite safe.
Amazingly, this was our family's second time using both the medical centre and ambulance service at Changi airport! Clara had been sick in this airport in the past. http://jeffrey-journal.blogspot.com/2019/11/around-singapore.html
